Can video help me sell more of my product or service?

This topic covers a lot of ground. Whether you are a company that sells lawn mowers and wants to highlight your safety features, or a company that sells grass seed and wants to educate your customer on best practices, video can help. It is much more compelling and entertaining than text. It brings to life voice inflection, setting, mood and emotion to engage your customers, or (even better) potential customers. It opens the door to the imagination much more effectively than text or even audio-only. Video is very powerful.

If you do have the typical video that simply promotes your product or services, why not use YouTube? You can achieve pretty darn good looking results. The quality at YouTube continues to increase as it brings on more mainstream content. Just about everyone gets it and trusts it.

Downsides? Read the fine print. Who owns the video once it enters the public domain? Who else will come up when the “similar videos” window shows after your’s is finished? Can they run ads for your competitor before or after your video? What would that be worth to your competitor? Who can take your video and edit it into a music video or website without your permission? How much control have you just given up?

To address these issues, if they are of a concern, take a look at other publishing platforms that allow you more control. Not only with distribution rights, but also with look and feel and other customizable elements. There are dozens of very affordable and very powerful tools on the market. One of them happens to be Multicast!

Interesting interview with comScore chairman Gian Fulgoni on the effectiveness of the Internet as an advertising vehicle.
